Wally Hollyday and Joe Ciaglia founded California Skateparks in the year 2000 in order to specialize in design-build skateparks. Over the next six years they perfected the design-build process and completed construction on over 80 quality public skateparks of which 30 were design-build.
Wally Hollyday has designed 60 concrete skateparks and BMX parks from 6,000 to 70,000 square feet in size. He started designing and building critically acclaimed skateparks in 1977, with the majority of his experience in the last nine years. Wally Hollyday construction manages all his designs and has supervised an additional 30 skateparks that were constructed by California Skateparks. A hands-on approach to skatepark construction administration has allowed Wally Hollyday to produce the best skateparks in the world. Wally’s unique construction experience provides you with a designer committed to quality assurance, project clarity, a high level of dependability, responsibility and project ownership.
As the principal designer and construction consultant, Wally Hollyday creates a seamless link between the design and build process. His complete commitment from personally conducting design workshops to shaping the concrete ensures the vision of the design will be translated to the finished project. Wally Hollyday provides construction administration for quality control of the job’s construction. QUALITY CONTROL
Wally Hollyday supervises the crew shaping the shot-crete, ensuring all transitions are perfectly cut and a smooth finish is applied. Pour in place forms for ledges and stairs are verified by designer before pouring. All shot-crete is cut to precise templates for reliable results. A custom guide for trimming along the coping is used for a consistent top edge. The transition is set to align exactly with the flat of the floor. Flat concrete decks and floors are poured to align with finished shotcrete surfaces. Concise shaping of the shot-crete is the key to a quality finish.
